What to know before you buy
Indian Trail sits just outside I-485 along US-74, with Matthews to the west and Monroe to the east. Off-peak, the drive to Uptown Charlotte is about 25 to 35 minutes via US-74 or I-485, and the US-74 corridor is known for heavy traffic at rush hour.
Daily shopping is concentrated along US-74 and at Sun Valley Commons, and downtown Matthews is a short drive away. Town parks include Crooked Creek Park and Chestnut Square Park, and Carolina Courts hosts indoor basketball and volleyball.
Current new construction is a mix of national and regional builders. Several communities, including Moore Farm and Moore Farms, sit near US-74 and I-485, while custom-home and larger-lot options are spread around the rest of town. Published HOA dues run about $70 to $85 per month in single-family communities and around $316 per month at the Esplanade 55+ community.
North Carolina taxes homes at 100% of assessed value. For 2025-26, Union County's rate is 43.42 cents and the Town of Indian Trail's is 17 cents per $100, so a home inside town limits pays about 0.60% of its value per year. Homes outside town limits pay the county rate plus any fire district levy instead of the town rate.
