What to know before you buy
York is roughly 30 miles from Uptown Charlotte. Off-peak, the drive takes about 40 to 50 minutes from the City of York, using SC-161 or SC-5 to I-77 or heading north through Lake Wylie. Communities with York addresses near Lake Wylie and Hands Mill Highway are closer, at about 35 to 40 minutes.
The City of York has a historic downtown with older homes, local shops and restaurants. Historic Brattonsville is a short drive east, Kings Mountain State Park is to the northwest, and Lake Wylie is about 20 minutes from downtown York.
Most new communities near the City of York are single-family neighborhoods from national builders, with townhome sections at Cannon Village and Bellamore. On the Lake Wylie side, York addresses include higher-priced custom homes and a 55+ community.
