What to know before you buy
Mooresville sits along I-77 at the top of Lake Norman, roughly 25-30 miles north of Uptown. Off-peak, the drive takes about 30-40 minutes, and the I-77 express lanes start just south of town for rush-hour trips. NC 150 and NC 3 connect the town's east and west sides, and many of the new communities are near those corridors and Exits 31-36.
Lake Norman is the big draw, with marinas, boat access, and lakefront restaurants close by. Downtown Mooresville has local shops and restaurants along Main Street. The town is also home to Lowe's corporate headquarters and a number of NASCAR team shops, and Lake Norman State Park is a short drive north in Troutman.
Prices are generally lower than in Huntersville. As of November 2026, townhomes start in the $320s and single-family homes in the high $300s. Taxes depend on the exact address. Inside town limits, the 2025-26 rate is about 98 cents per $100 of value (county plus town), plus 15.5 cents if the home is in the Mooresville Graded School District. Many newer neighborhoods sit outside town limits and pay the county rate plus a fire district tax. HOA dues in the communities we checked were about $65-$100 a month.

It depends on the address. For 2025-26, Iredell County charges 50 cents per $100 of value.
